Whilst many people thing that Apple has been a little slow on the mark in plugging the Evasi0n jailbreak that was released at the start of the month by the Evad3rs team, the news today is that an iOS 6.1.3 jailbreak will no longer be possible with Evasi0n.
Two new versions of iOS have been released since the launch of Evasi0n but these were to fix critical bugs and neither of them affected this untethered jailbreak. A report on the Forbes website however, suggests that Apple is working on patching the various exploits that allow Evasi0n to work and they are planning a new iOS release. Planetbeing has been speaking with Forbes' Andy Greenberg and he has revealed that iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 which was released a couple of days ago, patches at least one of the bugs that was exploited by the Evasi0n jailbreak. This could mean the end of the Evasi0n jailbreak for devices pre-installed with iOS 6.1.3. Anyone who is running the current version of iOS 6 and wants to retain their untethered jailbreak should refrain from updating their software.
The patched vulnerability pertains to the Time Zone setting and although Planetbeing is still currently running some tests, the domino effect of having one exploit patched will have devastating effects on the Evasi0n jailbreak. Planetbeing has stated that if one of the vulnerabilities doesn't work, Evasi0n doesn't work. He also said that they could replace that part with a different vulnerability, but Apple will probably fix most if not all of the bugs that have been used when iOS 6.1.3 is released.
Several million idevices have been jailbroken since the release of Evasi0n and it now looks like the end of the ride. It could be another month before we see the next firmware update. We will of course be keeping a close eye on things as they progress and will be sure to update you as news arrives. Until then, if you are using a jailbroken device, we recommend that you stick with your current iOS version and don't update your device until someone in the jailbreak scene says it is safe to do so.
