Apple has officially rolled out two step verification for all those who have an active Apple ID. This initiative will make it a lot more difficult for people to access someone else's Apple ID. This is good news for security conscious people and if you want to add an additional security layer you will find that making purchases or logging into the ID on a new device will trigger an authentication process that comes in the form of a four digit code entry.
This new two step verification process is entirely optional and you don't have to set it up if you don't want to. To set it up all you have to do is visit the My Apple ID page and from there you just select the Manage your Apple ID button from the right hand side of the page. Next you will be required to login and you can then start the two step authentication. Once you have done this the next thing you need to do is select the Password & Security option from the left hand menu under the heading Two Step Verification and then select Get Started.
Next you will receive some information about the verification process and this really just explains that as a user you will have to identify yourself through the use of an iOS device in the future. It also explains the process will generate a recovery key so that you can access your account in future. All you have to do on this page is select continue. More information is provided on the next page and again all you have to do is select continue. On the next page you have to click Get Started. Next you have to add a device or multiple devices to your account and grant permission for that device to receive the four digit code that is required for access. Select the device that you want to verify from the list. You can also add a device to the list which is associated with a phone number and capable of receiving SMS messages. This option will allow you to receive your verification code via SMS. Once you receive your verification code all you have to do is enter this into the page to complete the process.
After this has been completed you will be presented with a recovery key. You should store this in a safe place and then press continue. The next thing you have to do is confirm your recovery key. You have to type the recovery key into the space provide and hit confirm. Next you must agree to Apple's terms and conditions and click Enable Two Step Verification. That's it, you are all done now and you have successfully set up the Two Step Verification for your Apple ID.
